How to get pikachu as starter pokemon on pokemon go

Just got Pokemon GO? Want to know how to unlock Pikachu as your starter Pokemon? You’ve come to the right place…

Starting Out

This little trick only works for those who are just starting the game – if you’ve already played, then unfortunately you’re too late! You can only get a Pikachu now if you find one in the usual way…

For those who have just set up an account, and are ready and raring to get started, you’re in luck. It’s very easy for you to make Pikachu the first addition to your Pokedex, before you’ve even given your trainer a name.

Right at that very start of the game, you’ll be given the opportunity to bag your very first Pokemon. Of course, it will be easy, and before you know it, you’ll be surrounded by three – you can’t just be sent out there empty handed.

First Choices

Your first big choice as a Pokemon trainer will be a tricky one – what would you like your first Pokemon to be?

You’ll be given three options as to who will be the first to be registered on your Pokedex. You can choose either Charmander, Squirtle or Bulbasaur.

These choices are the same as players get at the start of Pokemon Red and Blue, the games that sparked the craze twenty years ago.

However, in an echo to 1998 release Pokemon Yellow, it’s not all it seems…

Getting Pikachu

You don’t have to choose Charmander, Squirtle or Bulbasaur as your first Pokemon. There’s a secret fourth option, that Pikachu fans will be very happy to discover.

There’s a very easy way of getting Pikachu as your starter Pokemon, so how do you do it?

Well, all you have to do is ignore the three options you ignore them.

In fact, it’s probably best you start the game outside, or in a big space, because you’re not just going to ignore poor Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur.

You’re going to turn your back on them, and then walk away.

When does Pikachu appear?

You keep walking, and suddenly, the three ignored Pokemon options respawn in your new location. Those guys don’t know when to take no for answer.

Don’t give in and take on into your Pokedex. Turn away from them again, and walk even further away.

Frustratingly, they’ll then appear again, just like last time, so repeat your ignoring tactics, and walk off once again.

You might have to repeat the whole walking away thing three or four times at most, but eventually, they’ll reappear one final time, but this time with a friend in tow.

That’s right, suddenly Pikachu will appear as a fourth option, next to Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle!

Simply tap Pikachu and catch him with one of your PokeBalls, as you would have with one of the other three, and he’s all yours!

How do I catch the rest of the options?

Unfortunately, once you’ve chosen your first Pokemon, whether it’s Pikachu or one of the original three choices – Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander, the rest of the options will disappear. You only get one!

So, is there a way to get the rest of them back? Let’s say you chose Pikachu, but have a secret soft spot for Charmander – how can you add him to your Pokedex?

Unfortunately, there’s no easy way.

Pokemon GO Nearby

No tips and tricks here I’m afraid! If you want one of the original starter Pokemon options you rejected, you’re going to have to go out and find them.

They’re considered rarer than many of the other species in the Pokemon world, so you’re going to have to do a lot of walking and tracking to find the one you want. You might get lucky and come across one at a PokeStop, but chances are, you’re going to have to work for it.

It shouldn’t be too difficult though, just get out into the wild and you may be in luck!
